Speaker
Everett Hello, fellow watch lovers, nerds, enthusiasts, or however you identify. You're listening to 40 in 20, the Watch Clicker podcast with your hosts, Andrew and my good friend Everett. Here, we talk about watches, food, drinks, life, and other things we like. Everett, how are you? You know, I'm terrific. We sat here and talked for like, 50 minutes, Andrew, and I didn't even crack a beer. I feel a little stupid. Well, you never talk to me anymore. You just like come over, you record, you drink my beer, and then you fucking leave. You don't text me back. What? I always text you back. You do. I don't know, I just want to talk shit. Andrew, I did notice you had some little babies in your lawn. I've got some good germination going in the front, not so good in the back. You had some babies. dense as I was hoping and I think that's okay. I've got like good patchy coverage so that come spring I'm ready for like a second round of overseeding and I think I'm going to be really good come summer.
Andrew Yeah.
Everett Cool. Cool. Cool. Yeah. I mean realistically we've got another month of growth. Anyway, I did notice as I walked up, I got my flashlight on my phone out.
Andrew Yeah.
Everett I was like, Oh, there we go. It's coming. There we go. Meanwhile, my lawn is just, it's, It's golf course rough quality. It is good. Maybe first cut, maybe not even rough. I mean, it's still, uh, it's still a little thin in a few places, which is to be expected. Right. But yeah, I mean that the last cut I was like, Ooh, all right. All right. All right. Yeah. I even posted on lawn care and read it. It's like, look at my shit. The before and after the muddy muck fest after the drill seed.
Andrew Uh huh.
Everett Uh-huh, that's exactly what I did. And I got like 145 likes. Woo, shit, you've not got 145 likes on anything you've ever done in your life. It's the most liked thing ever I've done. No, but I'm doing well, Andrew. Yeah, man, I'm a little sad about this morning. I wake up at like 8.30, 9. No, I wake up anywhere between 6 and 6.30, This morning my alarm clock went off at six, and it was like full dark, and I was like, oh. Oh, I love it. Wah, wah, wah. So I don't like that. It did not make me happy, but. How are you? I am good. I'm on the back end. I'm on the recovery of a, like a pretty mean head cold that like just ripped through my house. I had this like kill yourself Terrible sinus pressure headache for like the last four days. Yeah that broke today so I Feel like a whole new person Still a little rattly like my throat's still a little sore. So I've got some junk in my chest, but like I feel okay so that was that was a huge moment because the kids got sick first and Then Sam and then me and then the kids got better as like Sam and I were getting sick And kids just do not care. It's almost like they get worse when you feel like shit. So it was a hard couple days. I don't think at the age your kids are, they have the capacity. Like I don't think they should either, right? Like that's not built in programming for them. I don't have the capacity to empathize with you right now. Yeah. And they just, they really, really highlighted their inability to do that. So it was a, it was a hard couple days, but I am on the mend. So though I still sound a little gravelly, I feel pretty good today for the first time in about a week. Yeah. So it's a win. And my lawn is, I've got some babies growing in the front, some babies growing in the back. The dogs keep fucking digging. Yeah. Yeah. And all my top dressed area. And I'm just like, Neither of you are diggers. Yeah. You need a golden doodle, a miniature golden doodle. I just, I, I needed to get a dog run just to build one for him. Sell your dogs, get a miniature golden doodle. You'll be fine. That's okay. Get a Larry. That's okay. Oh, so. Larry is very respectful of grass. I'll just say that. My, uh, we have a puppy. His name is Doug. We got Larry and Doug, the neighborhood puppies. Uh, so he was born on June 23rd. So we're, Just shy, we're like 14 weeks. You're looking at me like I should know what that means. He's 14 weeks old. Okay. Last night, two nights ago, I had to go into work for a couple hours and I came home after the kids were in bed and I came through the front door and I have a puppy, right? So I hear like yappy puppy barks that are like kind of cute, like baby squeaky cries. But I came through the front door and I heard like a dog bark. Oh, yeah. But I saw my dog in front of me who let that out of him, who was more surprised than I was at the sound. And he was just like frozen and he let out another one and then was like, nah, I don't like that. There's a big dog in this house and it's not me. Uh, it was really cute. He has yet to let out another, uh, big dog bark cause he's a lab. So he's gonna, his parents are both big. So he'll probably tip it like 80 pounds when he's, fully matured and healthy. Um, you know, there's plenty of labs that are a hundred, 120 pounds, but they're, they're house hippos. It's not what my dog is going to be, but, um, but yeah, hearing a big dog bark come out of this like puppy who like still can't figure out which way his feet should go when he moves in any direction was, and it scared him. So it was like even funnier, man, Andrew, I saw a dog that, uh, as soccer game at the soccer game this last weekend that you would have loved. It was like, I don't know. You know, it's hard to gauge how big this is a bloodhound, right? So bloodhounds are so long and lanky. So I don't, there's such a weird shape, such a weird shape, but this thing, I mean, he was 150 pounds. If he was, if he was a single pound, he was great Dane. It was a great Dane sized bloodhound. I've been, well, I don't know if it was a bloodhound any, you know, I didn't talk to the owner, but I was like, Oh my God, I thought it'd be, Oh man, I love that dog. He was huge. I love hounds. They're just so dramatic though. Biggest hound dog I've ever seen in my life.
Andrew Man.
Everett And he had ears, and each one of his ears was like 13 inches long. I'm about that. I loved our hound, but he was just such a bitch. Like a fly would land on him and he would be distressed for an hour. Andrew, we're not here to talk about cute dogs, nor are we here to talk about grass. Once again, we could. We could. But we won't. Rather, grass and dogs. Grass. We're here to talk about watches. Do look forward to that podcast launching in about six months. It'll be Grass and Dogs, hosted by Everett and his good friend Andrew, where we talk about weed and hot dogs. That would be a good podcast. Something. Just every week you do a different hot dog and a different strain of weed. Yeah, just get a little toasty and eat hot dogs. I'm in. Do you remember that guy that had like a YouTube series? This is probably shit. This is probably 15 years ago at this point. Like early YouTube? Maybe like middle YouTube. But it was like doing X on Sativa, like gardening on Sativa. I never watched that, but that sounds like the kind of thing that you would watch. Sorry, not Sativa. Uh, Salvia. Salvia. Yikes. Salvia. So, and you know, I've seen interviews with this guy subsequent to the, the thing, you know, the, the joke was you can't do anything on Salvia. So he'd be like, it's like write faces and shit, how to write your Congressman on Salvia. And so he'd like, start and he'd be like, okay, so this is how you write your column. You don't need to address it. And then you'd be like, okay, now you did your salvia and you'd take a hit of it. And then he'd like go back to the project and just instantly fall apart. Right. Uh, anyway, it was terrific. That sounds like early days of YouTube. That's like e-bombs world era internet. Yeah. So definitely post e-bombs world height of e-bombs world. Like I want to say like 2010 ish. You know, it's hard to, you know, it's hard to place things moving back. Anyway, terrific. I'm sure you can, well, I don't know, maybe you can't find these things. That might be against their user agreements now. I don't know. But if you know what I'm talking about, shout out to you because it was terrific. But here we are not talking about the true golden era of the internet with addicting games and E-Bombs World, World Star. World Star. Though I understand that's still a thing. We should talk about watches today.
Andrew Yeah.
Everett And that's what we do. Week in, week out in sickness and in health. Sometimes in sickness. Most of the time in sickness. Yeah. We both have kids, man. They're disease factories. Yeah. Uh. We still most of the time do it. Yeah. I mean, we've missed a few. Six years. I think we've missed like probably a total of four episodes between the two of us, five episodes, maybe. And there was a period there a couple of weeks ago where we thought we were publishing, that we weren't, nobody said anything. So they wouldn't even miss us. Gosh, Andrew, I am having a little internet trouble. Oh, well get off the internet and go on your Wi-Fi. I've got to watch it. I've got to watch it. I've got to watch it. I've got to watch it. Do me. Do me. What are you talking about? Uh, so Depencil? Deponcil? Deponcil? Deponcil? I don't know. French independent watch company Depencel. Two weeks in a row we're talking about the French. Sure. Just introduced, just introduced the Allure Chronograph Mecca Q36 Motorsport. Okay. So first, we've talked about Depencel before. It's not a company I know a lot about, but they make attractive watches. And I feel like it's one of those companies that I'm like, you know, I don't know anything, but I want that watch. I want that watch. Because it's an Orphina. So this is, I think that's not unfair. Although there's some differences. There's some big differences, but when you look at top down, this is a, I think an appropriately executed homage. So what this is, is a race integrated bracelet racing chronograph. Firmly, firmly planted in the 70s. You've got a little bit of red, you got a little bit of yellow. So what this is, is a watch to reflect Depencel's ties to the automobile world. So I guess it is a sponsor of Retromobile Paris and Épacu Autolyon. Sure, maybe. Uh, it's, it's a sponsor of things like GPX racing tip and sell is in the racing world. And so this is a watch to celebrate that, uh, 36 millimeter stainless chronograph racing chronograph, which I was like, what? 36 millimeter. Okay. So, um, what, what do we got here? We, we really just have perhaps Unsurprisingly, a chronograph. It's blacked out. It's got great pops of color. It's got a 369, of course. But at its heart, it's got a VK-63 Mechacords, right? Which, perhaps unsurprisingly, given the MechaCube name of this thing, it's really, really attractive, Andrew. You've got a 60-minute, a 24-hour, which I always think that's a little funny. Um, how long you run that bitch? And there it's 600 bucks. And this integrated bracelet is rad. I looked at this thing and I was like, it doesn't look like anything else I've ever seen a B. It looks like a lot of things I've seen before and I really like it. Uh, it's got these like red racing stripes on the stick hour and minute hands that sandwich the loom, uh, or maybe they're orange racing stripes. Dude. Yeah. I think this thing is rad. And it's 36 millimeters. And it's 600 bucks. This thing is really, really, really cool. Yeah. This is a super fun, affordable, like truly 70s feel racing chronograph. Yeah. It's, it's mecha quartz, which is dope. Cause you get all of the, like visual wins of a mechanical chronograph without paying the, the premium for a mechanical chronograph? Well, I think, I think not only, not only that, I mean, that's a really easy, you know, you're not going to pay the price, uh, of a mechanical chronograph, but I also think you're getting some performance, uh, you're getting some performance increases, right? Not, I mean, let's just start with the fact that it's more accurate, right? That's, that's sort of an obvious, um, but you're, you're going to get like more reliability, a longer lasting, a longer lasting tool. Um, and you know, I go back and forth on Mecca courts. Um, but this, I think they've done this. I think they've done this right. I'm all in on Mecca courts. I like, If you're going to have a thing to do the job, why not have the objectively best thing to do the job? Right. Right. And you know, we're not, we're not talking to Apple watch. Cause I think there's an argument to be made that the Apple watch is the best thing to do the job. But if you're going to wear a watch that isn't a smartwatch or a device, Echocort's, a solar are going to be the thing to do the job. um just sub 40 42 8 on the lug to lug which is really nice but it's a tonneau case so that's about right the wrist model makes this watch look the lug make the lug to lug look a little long well i think i think that article i sent you that's it's a tiny person if you can see here that's oh yeah a normal sized human um yeah the article you sent me it looks like a frail old woman it It does have a 50 meter water resistance measurement, which I'm not crazy about, but you know. It's a driving watch. If you're driving and you end up in the water, you've done really bad. You're in big trouble. Yeah, you're in big trouble. Your watch is the last thing you're worried about. Anyway, I saw this thing and I was like, well, that's fucking rad. The bracelet, the integrated bracelet on this, I guess, I mean, is that integrated, Andrew? What says you? It's actually kind of like each case like almost it's an H case. That's not an integrated bracelet. All right. Well but the way the bracelet is shaped I think makes it feel integrated. It does. It does tend towards the appearance of an integrated bracelet. But it's it's certainly not fair. Fair enough. I accept. Anyway that's that's in link that in link makes it look integrated. They do. The transition there is super clean.
Andrew Yeah.
Everett Yeah that's right. And the shape of the links are really nice. It's a one piece link. Kind of Y-link. Yeah, beautiful. Yeah, that's good. That's 600 bucks. Hard to argue with that. You can't really go wrong there. My next up, this is a Seiko with Porter Classic for the Laurel-inspired Passage SPB449. And this is Good. So this is the same lacquer dial release that they've done. These great kind of scripty, scrawly fonts on the dial. It's limited to 500 pieces, wired lugs. Like this is like a 1920s feeling watch. It's a 35 millimeter case, big ass onion crown, small, uh, Oh, I lost all my words. Got a sub dial at the six for your. Like on the second. Second time zone, are you going to feel like OK? I'm having a little bit of a stroke. It's OK. This is just a super handsome like. 1920s, not dress watch, but fits the bill of a dress watch for me. I might not for you, but this, this would be a dress watch for me. Yeah. You know, I saw this last week and it was on my short list and I eventually, I eventually cut it. It was on mine too. And that's why I carried it forward. There's something about this watch that kind of irks me. I think maybe it's the lugs. It's the wire lugs that goes to like, there's no taper on the strap. It starts at like. But it's like a hinged wire lug. Mm-hmm. This feels like a trench watch. This is like a 35 millimeter pocket watch conversion to a wristwatch feel to me. This shouldn't be a watch, but it is. I like the size. I love the dial. It's so pretty. I love that like early 20th century font on the Arabic numerals. I mean, it's a beautiful watch. Really hard to say it's not beautiful, but. Six hour movement. There's something about it. Yeah. So, and with that, that small, it's not small seconds. I, I'm struggling to, it's small 24 hour. It's, it's your 24 hour, it's a 24 hour indicator, but it should be a small seconds, but it's got there. And I don't think it's a second time zone, Andrew. It's not, it's just your 24 hour indicator, but it's like, that's a weird decision. And all the other things for this is like, it's like, make it small, make it small seconds or, or delete Cause this watch deserves that sub dial. It deserves a small seconds. Just make it a fucking small seconds or get rid of it entirely. It's a little bit of a weird decision. Uh, and I think that maybe comes from like being with a fashion brand collaboration. I don't know. A 35 millimeter case, 12, three thick. 37 lug to lug, 50 meters of water resistance, big dome sapphire crystal. I do like that it's sapphire. Yeah, which is... And not hard Lex. I kind of expect hard Lex, but for a $2,300 collaboration watch, it should be sapphire. Well, yeah, but as we've discussed recently... necessarily do what they should do. They do what they want. I could, I'm with you on the lugs make it a little bit weird dimensionally. And it's because there's no taper on the strap because it's probably like an 18 millimeter strap. Yeah, no, I don't know. I think it might be 16. Maybe it's super thin, but that's like kind of evokes that like It's a 35 millimeter case and that strap is tiny. Like it, it makes that like trench watch converted pocket watch feel. Um, this is super like, I like almost a ribbon, almost a ribbon. Yeah. I could get down with this. Uh, I'm, I'm going to be on the hunt cause there's only 500 pieces made. So I'm going to be on the hunt for one of these secondhand. Cause I, I think you'll probably be able to get them at like 1500 bucks. You figure we'll, uh, link that in the show notes. I don't know why I said that. I haven't decided yet. So OLEC and WAAA... We've never really decided how we should say this. I know, we need to. When did you figure out how to fucking say that? Either way, they're a watch brand. It's been around since, well, a long time. 1956. Since before we were born. Founded in Zurich. So for me, feels like a startup or a small brand, an independent brand, but it's not. I mean, I guess it might be all of those things, but either way, it feels like a new brand to me, but it's not. It's been around for a while. And they made a watch, Andrew, I'm going to throw something out there. This is a watch that aesthetically. It's familiar. Is familiar to me. Um, so what this is, is an H, case, tool watch. It's not a dive watch, but it does have a rotating bezel with a 12-hour indication on the bezel, which I'm a sucker for. It's a 70s skin diver. It's a big, fat... This feels very much like a skin diver, but actually what this is, is a Olicanoises field watch that harkens back to... An owl. We'll just call him owl. Owl. This harkens back to watches the Oaken watch made in the 60s for Vietnam, United States, Vietnam soldiers, which I was like, what? Is that a thing? So I guess, I guess they did. They made divers and GMT watches and a Vietnam era field watch called the B905 US Air Force watch. This is not a remake of that watch, but it is definitely sort of homaging those watches. This is what they call this is the Olican watch OWM52 in quotes all units or AU. Basically this is the Air Force watch but without the Air Force link. So what this is is a 40 millimeter or 39 and a half millimeter 12 and a half millimeter thick dive watch that's made with a field aesthetic. It has 300 meters of water resistance, a PVD-coated bi-directional rotating bezel with a 12-hour marker, and it's beautiful. Andrew, it's beautiful. This is a beautiful watch. It's powered by a Soprad P024, which I believe is an architectural clone of the 2824. Um, meaning it's 28 comma, 800 vibrations per hour, uh, 38 hour power reserve. Um, but you know, so kind of a, whatever movement it's, it's so proud. So it's going to be nice and good. It's got a custom Olaquioj rotor, uh, and it comes on this terrific wrap strap. I saw this thing. I was like, well, this is just a terrific watch, but, but Andrew, I think it's like too much money. Maybe I don't know enough about Olican watch, but this is a Soprod P024 field watch that doesn't come on a bracelet. Well, it doesn't come on a fitted bracelet. I think you can get it on like a shark mesh. It's like 1500 bucks. I was like, love it, love, love, love, beautiful, great, wonderful 1500 bucks for this. It doesn't happen to me very often where I'm like, I'm not one of those guys either that's like, oh, it's too much money. Like, well, it's, you know, the amount of money they charge for these or whatever they charge. But I saw this and I was like, what? What? I don't know. I think, I think because of the brand heritage, they kind of have this place of expectation. I don't, I don't think you're wrong by a long shot. And I sort of thought the same thing when I got all the way to the bottom and finally looked at the price. But I don't know. I think when I see an Owl watch, I'm like, eh, $15,000 or $2,000. You know, this is sort of in the range for OLEC and watch. But what if you release this watch? You don't make it a stupid 300 meters of water resistance. And you sell it for 800 bucks or 900 bucks, right? I'm not saying make it a loss leader, but it doesn't have a fitted bracelet. Like, make this watch, kick it down to 150 or 200 meters of water resistance. Why does this watch need 300 meters of water resistance? And sell it for an amount of money that is not going to... Because that's not what the people want. They want some specked out pro diver shit. You know, they have a thousand meter automatic dive watch that is aesthetically very different from this watch, uh, for any number of reasons. But that watch is like, I think those things go for like 2000 bucks, right? Like this is good on the mesh. Yeah. It's really good on the mesh. Yeah. It's a good looking watch. In fact, I can say confidently that if I were to design a watch, it would look a lot like this. Uh, Ask me how he knows. But I don't know something about something about the price. I was just a single piece bezel too. No, it's a two piece. I think it's a single piece PVD coated bezel. Yeah, there needs to be a break. No, it's got a it's got a it's got a bevel on the outside. It's a single piece. I mean, this is by for all intents and purposes. This is very similar to the Foster. Foster's a little bit smaller. No, it does have a bevel. But yeah, no, it's a one-piece PVD bezel. That's to say, this is a terrific watch. It is good. Big good crown. I just think that this watch is too much money. I think it's too much money. Their logo looks like a butt. I actually really like their logo, but I agree. It's open for interpretation. It looks like the imprint you would make on a summer day after sitting on a, uh, uh, what's the material called on a, in like old cars? Uh, vinyl? Yeah. Vinyl. Like the sweat imprint? Yeah. The sweat mark that you would leave on a vinyl seat when standing up. What's next, sir? Oh, next up for me. Uh, and this is an interesting thing. Nevada Grenchen. Don't do it. You've got like 10 watches that I didn't pick. Go ahead. You do you. You selfish bastard.
Andrew Oh no, I didn't do this one.
Everett I know. That's cue my silence. Carry on. Nevada Grenchen has an interesting release and it's not just interesting because it is interesting, but it's interesting because it's coming from Nevada Grenchen, It is a watch with interchangeable bezels on the Chronomaster. So the Chronomaster is a Bicompax chronograph watch that is extremely attractive. It's, whoa, shoot. I just had the, I just had the page up with the dimensions. I want to say a 35 millimeter case. Am I wrong here? I just had it. Andrew, this is your watch. It is. And I had the Nevada Grenchen side up. Where did it go? Doesn't matter. The worst. Arguably. Fuck. Hold on, I'm pulling it up. Oh, here we go. I've got it. It is a Hang on. 38 millimeter case, 13.75 thick with a Landeron 70 movement. What's the Landeron 70? Is that... I'm not super sure who it's built off of. All right, move along. You can dig for that. 10 atmospheres of water resistance, 20 millimeter bracelet. Here's what's exciting. It is a gorgeous 70s racing feel chronograph with a bucket load of bezel options that are tool free interchangeable. Very much like the Formex Reef where it's like, hey, I want a different bezel. You pop that bitch off, you put a new one on. We've got GMT bezels, tachymeter bezels in varying colors. that let you kind of add a new level of personalization to what exactly you want. And I think that's interesting that they're not just saying, Hey, this is the watch that we have. There's a few color ways and here you go. It's Hey, you can buy this watch and then you can buy these eight other things to make your watch more the thing that you want or just change it day over day. 2000 bucks. This is a, really lovely vintage inspired chronograph by a brand with chops who doesn't usually dabble in this kind of like consumer satisfaction place. Sure. Right? That's a, it's a weird thing to do cause that's not a, that's not making them money to sell you bezels. I mean they're selling this watch for 2000 bucks. They're, they're making money. Not in the same way of like, oh, no, you can have it in this color or you can have it in this color, but you can't combine the two. Right. It's not like emailing Nick at Ray or at at Orion and being like, hey, I really like this dial and this case and this bezel. Can you hook it up? And he's like, yeah, dude, I got you. Yeah. And you submit your order and then you get this one of a kind watch sent to you. Right. This is a this is a. A big ass company. who's saying, hey, we'll let you customize our shit. And this isn't like the, the one where the wild one or whatever from Norcane. Sure. Yeah. You know, it's interesting. I feel like the, the moving or the, the swappable bezel has, we've seen a few of these in the last several years. Um, you, you know, uh, Formex does this, uh, but turns out Nirvana has been doing this since the sixties. They, they in the sixties introduced a women's line of watches, all of which are pretty ugly, but called the Colorama, which is maybe the coolest. I did find. So the, the Landeron is a sort of a Frankenstein of the SW five 10, which moved in the 77 50 and is now kind of based on that. I see. I knew it was in that zone. I just, I had to find the, the, the pathway. But this is automatic, right? Okay. I'm looking at pictures of a Lander in 70 and it looks mechanical to me. No, there's a rotor. It doesn't, it can't be, it has to be mechanical. What does it say? There's no rotor. A aviator, sea diver. Yeah, no, this is an automatic. So this is a mechanical chronograph. What's the thickness on this? Did we? We said the thickness was stop barking dogs. No, hang on. Golly, you're making me switch between tabs. That's a rotor, right? The thickness on it is... 1375. So it's, it's on a 7750 architecture. Okay. There's no way you're that thick, excusably without 7750 architecture. That's a manual movement. It's not automatic. So that, that's just like a big bridge. Interesting. This is cool, man. It's like a decorative bridge. It almost doesn't seem necessary. Yeah. Well, but they've got this watched on the 1375 with, with a hundred meters of water resistance. So yeah, this is cool. I don't even hate the price. No, I'm super good with it. Everything about this watch I'm good with because you can fully customize it. It's a really attractive, super boring, like just 70s Bicompax chronograph. Fonts are good. Colors are good. Fonts are great. You know, I don't love the way Nevada does their mail and links on their Beads of Rice bracelets. They're kind of like aggressive fingernail looking things. A little bit. They don't bevel it with the, uh, with the lugs, the kind of the way that you'd want. Yeah. Well, I want a little bit softer exchange point there. Like maybe bevel the inside of the lug and the, and the inside of the end link. Yeah. It almost seems like a, like a misfit and the lug to lug on this, model's wrist looks way too long. Yeah well those lugs are those lugs are pretty long so. Well they're what uh oh gosh I closed that tab already. It doesn't matter it's a super good vintage inspired chronograph with a number of easily exchangeable bezels. Uh, Yama. Yama. Yama, not a, uh, not a Swiss brand, rather a French brand, second of the night. Uh. We've been talking about the French a lot. We might have to do a French watch episode. Uh, you know, we've done worse things. Much for less money too. So Yama has re-released the Wristmaster, the Wristmaster Traveler. uh in four new in four new dials uh so a relatively new release from from yama when this came out last year i was like yahoo this thing's rad uh and i still feel that way i do think some people are a little tired it was not last year this must have been two years ago i do think people are a little tired of the integrated bracelet thing and i think yama's taken some flack on this watch because maybe originally there was some QC issues. And I think that the watch is just, in the context in which it came out, I think it's not an unfair accusation to call this watch uninspired. It is not a direct homage to anything. However, this could be one of about seven watches that came out around the same time And that original, the original release of the wrist master traveler that came out, um, you know, did some things that I thought were really cool, but, but also some things that I would like kind of you, I did not like the dials on these things. I thought there were some, I mean, they're kind of expensive and I was like, why are these so expensive? But they, they also had this like great font anyway. Anyway, these new versions of the Wristmaster Travel, so four new dials. They are Geneva striped all the way across, which is this really terrific look, kind of like a fine finish. Yamaha does this really cool machined Geneva striping that just looks epic. And this comes in four great colors. You've got this like, Three great colors and one adequate color. Uh, interesting. Which color don't you like? I'm not super fond of the orange. Oh man. I saw that orange. So it's like a sort of a rusty copper orange. I saw that. Yeah. I was like, that one doesn't do it for me. So the gray. It's interesting you say that because I think, I think the red is the star, that orange is the star of the show. Oh man. The gray gets me fucking going. I like the gray. I like the blue. I like the green. I like all of these colors. I love these dials. I love the raised stainless markers. You've got a loom, loom plots at the end of each marker. So visibility is going to be great. Just the more I see this watch, the more I'm like, you know, I think they've maybe done something with this. Handsets are great. Arrow hands, but they're like long. Well, already long. They're beveled really nice. They're beveled really nice. The minute hand goes exactly out to where it should be. The hour hand goes to just the inside edge. Proportions on this are great. The bezel on this thing is great. Um, I'm really good with these. And I think that these, this, these four releases are really, are really terrific. So you've got this like, you've got this kind of boring watch, but just in a great package. So 39 millimeters on these, um, uh, on the second generation, which I believe is exactly the same size. Um, you've got a 43 and a half millimeter lug to lug integrated bracelet for sure. 11 and a half thick. Um, great bracelet, although you've got a butterfly, a folding butterfly, you know. I'm good with that. On a watch like this, you need a folding butterfly. This, this reminds me of like cycle sports. And 100 meters water resistance, by the way. The, just the. Cycle sports. The cuts in the, in the bezel. Look like brake rotors. They do. This reminds me of cycling. I don't know what about it. beyond that, but the tool marks, the kind of vertical machining, like striations on the bracelet. This, this looks like a cycle sports watch. So excuse me. So these are shipping. It says in October is October, but it's, they're still on pre-order. So shipping end of October. So they'll ship in a couple of weeks. They're 890 bucks retail. I mean, this or a PRX automatic? This all day. I'll pay the extra for over a PRX. This all day. And I think you can get Powermatics for like... 600 bucks? Yeah, 500, 600 if you're looking. I think they're 750 is full retail on the Powermatic PRX I take this all day. Yeah. This is just a better looking watch. And I think Yema's, I think that their in-house 2824 clone, they've worked out the kinks. I love this watch. And you know what? You're unlikely to find someone who picked one of these up on accident. Not so with the Powermatic, right? Yeah. With the PRX. They got, they went to Macy's and they're like, Oh, hey, that looks cool. Maybe. Yeah. That's a cooler watch. Oh, that's, expensive, but not so expensive. I can't afford it. And it's so attractive. And I know Tiso, that's a Swiss brand. Tits out. Yeah. Fuck yeah. Like for me, there's something appealing about this brand that is like a little bit more under the radar. And I think the watch is better. I think the watch is just a better watch. Yeah. I think you're going to get better finishing top to bottom. If nothing else. I say that without having seen it. Full disclosure, I haven't touched one of these, but I'm sure it's a better watch. So yeah, for me, given the choice, Paramedic, PRX, or this, I'm putting my money in it. I go this, yeah, I paid the extra 80 bucks. I wanna talk about something new. Go. We have a new IFL release with the Timex Q Space Dunk, and this is a really fun, For those of you who aren't familiar, IFL is an artist who I fucking love. I fucking love. Who does hand-painted dial collaborations with watch brands, done several with Timex. The most recent iteration is hand-painted dials on the Timex Q of an astronaut dunking a golden orb through a golden ring, kind of in a Jordan pose. This is super fun. He made 150 of them. This astronaut should have his tongue out. He probably does, but his, his, uh, mask is down. So you'll never know. I wonder if you could email him. I wonder if you could email him and be like, Hey, could you get his mask up in mine and make his tongue out, um, and make him look like Jordan? Uh, And it's just a cute Timex, right? But 800 bucks for these, 790 euros. So about 800 bucks, uh, hand painted dials. This is maybe my favorite IFL watch to date. I don't have a problem with this. You know, we've talked about these a few times. I think they're really clever and cute. I don't think I'd want one of these though. I'd wear the fuck out of this. Yeah. My Q Timex battery just died. I have to pull it so it doesn't start to corrode. And this is the GMT Q Timex, by the way. I don't know if I said that. Oh yeah, I didn't mention that. Yeah, no, I will say as good as these are, there's something, the style of the art it leaves something to be desired. It's street art, right? Like it's, it's graffiti art. And it's these tiny little hand, it's just so intricate and beautiful. But for me, it leaves something to be desired. It's maybe not my thing, but I want him to put his sunscreen up and get his tongue out. Um, it's a special request. Yeah. Uh, excuse me, Mr. IFL. Banksy. You can paint one on the side of my house. I don't want you to take it, so I'm going to take it. Uh, cause I'm just sure, I'm just sure you're going to take it next. Marathon. Oh, you knew it. I even had a cued Canadian brand supplier of the U S military with, with watches. Um, allegedly I never saw a marathon while I was in the army, kind of a weird watch. So, you know, they, they have a number of models, their SAR models, are popular. I've played with a couple of these. The thing that's always bugged me about Marathon, the big Marathon watches, the CSAR or JSAR or whatever, is they're really tall and they've got a really deep crystal to dial distance, which for me always feels very conspicuous in the flesh or in the metal. Um, and, and frankly, I don't know if that's different here. However, I really, I really like this watch. So they released this last week, a watch they're calling the Osar D and this watch is a hyper, hyper legible, um, watch that they've released in the past, in the early two thousands. that is, I think, really terrific. The size is really good on this thing. The proportions are really good on this thing. It is a big bitch. So it's a 41 millimeter dive style watch with a 48 millimeter lug to lug and 14 millimeters thick. Now, that's fine. It's not the biggest one, though. The Osar has ranged from Like little itty bitty to like 40, like 36 to 46 has been the right range. Yeah, that's right. Um, so, and those are just fucking cool movements. Lita SW 200. That's fine. It's got this big chunky bezel. Um, I just really think this is a, I read somebody refer to this watch as unapologetic to a watch. And I think that's right, but it's not outside of the realm of reasonable. And I think that's what I like about it. Like, this is just a very simple, very clean, very capable, unapologetic tool watch. I've talked about Raven in this context before. You know, Steve Laughlin is like, I want a big watch. I want a legible watch. I want these things in my watches. This doesn't feel to me anything like a Raven. Because it's different in so many ways. In a lot of ways, in like the most important ways. But it's it feels like it captures the same like that same like unapologetic sort of ruggedness, maybe maybe with the ruggedness turned up and the refinement turned down. But, you know, maybe even like compared to an SKX, this feels like a much more capable SKX or something, right? With 300 meters of water resistance. Every time I look at Marathon watches, I'm always like, man, I really want that watch. But I can get something as well-specced and cooler and as tool watch for less money. Every time I look at Marathon, I'm like, well, Boulder, I can pay a third of the price or like I can go to CWC and get like a like a maybe more heritage brand shirt doesn't have an NSN or like I can go to any number of places or like even the SKX. Are these NSN stamped? I don't know. I'm sure you can get NSN stamped ones but just because it exists doesn't mean that it's on there. That's always been my hang up with Marathon is I just I feel like I'm paying, I feel like I would be paying more money for something not as cool. And that's kind of how I feel about the Osar. As much as I love this watch, I really want this watch, but this is just kind of a slightly enhanced SKX. You know, I don't actually know. The more I'm looking at this watch, I don't know that the case is any different than a GSAR, just comparing them. It's not, or like I think if you're a white label, whatever bullshit you have that you got for 150 bucks that you had to like use a Japanese broker for. Oh yeah, yeah. No, it's a different watch. Yeah, that wasn't it. But I think of that, like that's just as well spec'd and it cost a tenth of the cost and it's cooler. I don't know if it's as well spec'd, but. It's a 300 meter dive watch. well i see what you mean i see yeah i mean but it's a it's a quartz watch anyway i i like these i think it's really neat i think if you're in for in into something like this i think it's great and really what i like about this watch i love the the dial this is a traditional dive style dial i i think it's great um i love this watch it's a lot of money i i love this watch don't like don't don't mistake my I don't think the bang for your buck is is here with a marathon in the same way it is for Raven or Boulder or even some Seikos or some white label stuff. I just I don't I don't feel like it's there even for as much as I love marathon. So I'm looking at actually I'm looking at some pictures on Fratello. I don't know if these are marathons photos. I think that they might be because this Uh, so I'm running from images combined with my experience with prior star models. Yeah. These must be marathon stock images. So this is a big watch. It's a 41 by 48 millimeter watch. Look at these. Oh yeah. Marathon's got a model and this guy must be, Oh, it's Thor. A giant. Yeah. Cause he makes this watch look like a 36. Yeah. No, it's Thor wearing it. All right. Anyway, moving on. They even cinched the strap down to cut into his wrist so his forearm didn't intimidate you. All right. Carry on. You know, I think we might be at the juncture. Oh, you think it's time? I do. We're at 52 minutes. All right. Is there anything else we need to talk about? There's plenty of things on the list. Come on. Can we talk about this Alpiner Extreme? It was on both of our lists. The Alpiner was, but you know, maybe maybe you'll keep the tab open and save it for next week.
Andrew I won't.
Everett Then save it right now. I won't. It's not going to happen. Run it. So the Alpiner. It's a 39 millimeter. Dropped in a 39. It's so fucking good. Yeah. Oh, my gosh. This is Alpina's best release by a long shot. a beige, a blue, a green dial, 39 millimeter by 11 and a half thick, 200 meters of water resistance with an integrated bracelet. They're using a Salida 200 base on it. 2,200 American money. This is good. Oh, okay. So, so, but hear me out and this is, this is why I wanted to talk about this cause I do think it's terrific. 39 millimeters, 40 and a half long, great size. It's 11 and a half thick with 200 meters of water resistance. Do you take this or the Essence at 150? Oh, gosh. Because to me, this watch is different in a lot of ways than the Essence, but they fit a similar place. I think the Essence is definitely a dressier watch. This is more tool. This is super sporty. I think... Tough, right? About the same price. So these are retailing at... I think I go with this. 2000 on the strap, so a little bit more than the Essence. I think I go with this and it's... I like the case shape a lot more. I like the balancing of the crown guards and the crown with the Asymmetric balance? What would you call that? It's balance. It's not asymmetric. It exists on those crank guards. It exists on both sides. Exactly. But I don't know what to call the bump on the non-crown side. The bump. I like the bump on the non-crown side. Yeah, I think the case is more interesting to me.
Andrew Okay.
Everett Well, I like this watch a lot, and I think it's terrific. At 11.5 millimeters thick, You basically, for a millimeter or just one and a half millimeters, you get 50 meters of water resistance, which to me, I'm like, I don't need that 50 meters of water resistance. And it's more tool-y. I probably take the Formax. No, I see why. I just think this is, if I'm buying that style of watch, I'm going all in. Sure. And this is the one to go all in on. Yeah. Yeah. For me. Yeah. Fair enough. Andrew, other things. What do you got? Ooh. So I have another thing and it's an interesting other thing I've had. Andrew's undressing. He's disrobing. I've had a belt for 15 years. All right. Well, I've had a belt my whole life. This, I've had this belt for 15 years. Okay. Uh, it is by a company called the wilderness. Their website is the wilderness.com and it's a fairly simple. Like web style. Like a nylon reinforced belt with a hook style. Um, what do you call this? Uh, like a pass through friction buckle hook and loop fastening to wrap it around you. I've had this Like I said, I've had this belt for 15 years. I've worn this belt every day for probably seven years. Like this is the belt I wear as my under belt in law enforcement. And for those of you unfamiliar, your belt doesn't just like hang on your body. Duty belts wrap around you and then they have to secure to something. They're not just free floating on your body. This is the belt that I've worn to hold my pants up and then to secure my duty belt to for five years every day. This is the belt that I wear. I've carried a gun on this in four different locations over the course of that time. I've worn this belt. Uh, I wore it while I was in the army for more often than not. Um, senior NCOs super hated that I was wearing a black belt in ACUs and then a multicam. Hey, sir. And I was like, uh, why are you looking at my belt, Sergeant Major? And then I got, and then I got real mouthy and I started wearing a leather belt with my calf belt buckle on it. And they'd be like, why are you wearing that? I'm like, I'm fucking wearing it. I also have spurs and a cowboy hat. What do you want? Um, but anyway, this is like a kind of a stupid other thing, but in the way of like super durable things that I've bought, and spent a relatively small amount of money on that have never degraded. The hook and loop is still phenomenal. This is $65. It looks more expensive than that to me. I got this for $65. It's a rigger belt. It's got the little V-loop in like emergency rescue thing. So you could use it for like, uh, for repeller if you needed to. Like absolute worst case scenario repel. I always thought of the scenario of like, uh, hook something to me and drag my limp body away. Um, winch you out of the cliff. Yeah. Like, like just do something to, to not let me die. This is like, one of the least expensive and most used things I've had in my entire life. It's double reinforced from, I don't know, 80% of it. And it's still vertically not compromised even a little bit. It's cool. Like, like just, just try to bend it. There's no, there's no vertical compromise in it. And I have like double, it's double webbed nylon. I'm going to link to it. It comes in four colors, black, gray, coyote, and OD. Do you think it's got like a, uh, like a, a liner, some sort of. It doesn't say that they have a liner, but it seems like it really does. Yeah. Uh, and it's just from this kind of like discreet, we just make these things really well. We make Rad Belt. Yeah. We, and so this is, this is my other thing. Uh, they fit fairly true to size. So I'm typically a 32 waist in like pants. I have a 36 belt and it fits perfectly. I've got an extra, like it has grown and shrunk with me over the course of my, uh, body changes, but man, this thing is fucking dope. That's good. That's good. If you're looking for, this is, It is pretty, let's just be clear. It's pretty tactical. It's pretty tactical, yeah. I mean, you've got that buckle is... It's the V-shaped buckle with a clear loop on it. And it's big. It's heavy duty, right? Yeah. There's nothing subtle about this belt. But if you're cool with that kind of thing, like this, this thing has, has gone through the ringer and it carries my duty belt. This is like, I'm wearing it today because I worked and I was in a duty belt today in plain clothes and So that's why it was still in my pants. And I was like, Oh, this is the fucking thing. I've had it since I was in college. It's cool, man. So at least at like, I'm really like really 15 years of. I don't need that regular wear. I don't need that belt. But I'm like, I probably should have one of those. There's no reason for you not to have one of these. You know, I. And it's 65 bucks. I ever once in a while, I have an issue. I have an issued, um, uh, What coyote? Oh, that thing's trash. Army belt. I still throw it on every once in a while. I actually don't hate it. It's not rigid enough. I, I have another one that like I had a couple, I had one sergeant major who was basically like, look dude, you can't wear a black belt. We're not doing this. Like if you need me to go talk to daddy, we can go talk to daddy together, but you need to at least wear a brown belt. So I got a similar belt, like the rigor belt with like the Velcro and all the extra shit. And I wore that for a little while and then I, I went over to my leather belt and he was more tolerant because I was still in the cab at that point, but he did not like that I wore my leather belt every day. But I had my regiment belt buckle on it. Sometimes you just have to break the rules. So he couldn't really bitch, but he didn't like it. And then I went back to this black belt and man, this thing is so fucking good. And it's good because there's just not ever a question about it. It has no signs of wear. They, the, the, the, the nap on the polyester is wearing it a couple of places, but we're talking like 15 years of like regular wear and they sell a, a hook and loop replacement set. So you can just buy your, you can buy Velcro to replace your, you just stitch it on your patch. You just stitch it on yourself or, you know, have someone do it for you. Yeah. Um, yeah, I don't want to do that with a singer. I wouldn't know. I hadn't sent it to somebody so they can fuck up their thing. That's cool, man. Yeah, this is my other thing. It's a good other thing. Yeah. I wonder, you said the website doesn't say anything, but it feels to me like it's Kevlar lined. It's probably not Kevlar. I'm looking for it right now. So I got another thing. A few months ago, maybe a year ago, I bought a remote control car. Did I talk about this on the show? You have talked about it on the show. So I kind of out of nowhere, I think a YouTube video popped up or something. And it was like, best ways to upgrade your Traxxas Slash. And I was like, you know... Oh, sorry, I have to... It's the original Instructor Belt. Okay, okay. Link in the show notes. Yeah. I saw this video and I was like... I bought this thing, and I'm sure I talked about this when I first brought it up, but I went to the store, the hobby shop here in town, and I was like, I kinda wanna get a remote control car. And the guy was trying to get me to buy these ready to run He was like, you don't want to, you just want something that you can take out and dry. And I was like, no, that is not what I want. I want to build this thing because I'm not really going to play with this thing. Like, you know, I want to build it. And, and I did, and I loved the building process. And then of course I stick it on the shelf and I haven't used this thing in a year, but then I saw this video and it was like, here's how you upgrade your, your thing. And so I, Took this car out and I basically just tried to break it. I was went out with the kids and like we just ran it as hard as we could. Crashed into my truck a bunch. Just crashed into fucking everything, man. And eventually broke it. And went to the hobby shop and I got some replacement parts. And I got home, just took it out with the kids and just like ride it hard. Just go hard. And we broke it again. And so I've been taking this thing out, running it as hard as we can, breaking it, going and getting the replacement parts, bringing them home and like rebuilding it. And I'm having so much fun doing this thing. This has been what I've been doing like in my free time with the kids for the last, I don't know, month. It is taking this car and the parts on these things so to like from zero to get started in this hobby is kind of a lot of money, right? Like I was like, oh God, I need to spend like 400 bucks to, I think that's a lot of money. But like if you break apart on this, like one of the parts I broke was this, like one of the chassis parts on the back, right? And it kind of ties a bunch of stuff together. And I broke it, I went to the hobby shop to replace this. This is the first part I broke. Four bucks. Four bucks for the replacement part. He was like, you want the upgraded version? This one's kind of break. I was like, well, I don't want that. And he was like. Eight bucks. Eight bucks. Literally eight bucks. Good guess. That's twice as expensive. And so, and you know what? Driving this thing hard and fast and breaking it is fun. Like not, I mean, breaking it is always like, wah, wah. But like driving it hard and just like hey, let's put this piece of MDF on a bucket and fly this thing off of it as fast as we can and see how bad we can crash it. And just telling the kids, yeah, go ahead. Just break it. I dare you. Not literally break it, but don't worry about it. This is so much fun. This machine, and it's pretty impressive, Andrew. So I've now replaced the electronics, I've replaced the motor, and it flies. I think I'm getting quick when I heard it crashed in my car. I thought there was an actual car crash. It was just your tire. Well, I know, but it sounded like an actual car crash. I think I can. This thing goes now like over 50 miles an hour, 15 five zero Andrew five zero with a three S battery. This thing goes like over 50 miles an hour. So when I play with the kids, I put a two S battery. So it's probably like 35, 30 to 35. I put a three S battery in 50 miles an hour and I'm, I'm not fucking joking you dude. And just like launching this thing and watching it crash and then like, Oh, I'll go to the hobby shop and I'll get parts and I'll rebuild it and taking it apart while we're watching walking dead or whatever. I'm loving it. It's so much fun. And knowing I can rebuild it because I built it and just like, Oh, watch a YouTube. Oh, I got to take a minute. Okay. Okay. Get the part. I unscrew some shit. I screw it all back in. I'm loving it. Super duper fun. Are you going to get into track racing? You know, you can have like a pit crew and everything. We've got a track. No, we've got, there is a track up in junction city and I've considered heading up there just to see what people doing. It's not really a car for that. It's a, It's, there's a class up there that I could run in, but they use different, they use cars that are set up differently. Um, so that would be like a whole nother, I'd have to get it, maybe not have to, but I'd probably want to get, I'd want to get a new car and get like fueled motor and yeah, still probably electric, but it wouldn't be the, the truck I have wouldn't work for up there. It just wouldn't be a competitive. So anyway, probably not realistically to answer your question. I don't think I am.
Andrew Maybe.
Everett You never know, right? But tomorrow is a new day. And those cars are all more expensive. So this car is just a Traxxas slash. So it's like cheap basher. Those cars like double the price of everything. So you break a, you know, you break the caster blocks on that thing and it's twice as much to fix it. Anyway, uh, that's my other thing. That's what I've been doing. All right. You got anything else you want to talk about in the, in the cul-de-sac? Yeah. Traxxas slash two wheel drive. If you want to look something up for the show notes. That's what I did. All right. Uh, anything you want to add before we move it along for the week? A lot of things. Uh, you know, when I ask him that question, you guys, I start the music. It sounds like maybe that's coming in and post. It's not. I like actually. No, he doesn't. He cues the music on me. So even if I had her face, the Traxxas slash two wheel drive is out of stock on the Traxxas website. You got anything you want to add as the music comes in?
